Conceptual Map

I wanted to share with you all my latest creation; I made a conceptual map I made for my Adv. Print Production Course. The map represents my sleep patterns as well as my dreams over a two-week period. I used the old mapping system they used for phrenology, which has been dismissed years ago, to place the dreams I had. The sleep chart documents the times I went to bed and woke up, the duration of my sleep and of course the naps I took.

The piece was hand drawn, scanned in through Photoshop then I colored it in Illustrator. After I was done doing that I printed it on an Epson Matte finish paper and hand stitched the graph of my sleep in the lower right hand corner. The final piece is 16x20 but folds down to 4x6 or something close to that. I will be making some minor changes to the piece before I put it in my portfolio but I thought I’d share this with you all.

Please feel free to leave comments.

Map in progress...

All the lines are now outlined and ready for scanning in...

This is where I had to break up the map to scan it in...

Matt and Kim Daylight Free Download

Green Label Sound today announced the release of the new single Daylight from Brooklyn-based dance punk pair Matt and Kim. The single is now available as a free download exclusively at greenlabelsound.com. This is the second release by the “singles only” music label to support emerging artists from a diverse array of genres. Previously released by Green Label Sound was Delivery Man by Chicago rap duo The Cool Kids.

Supported by Mountain Dew, Green Label Sound is a new music program designed to showcase and support exciting, relevant, and unique independent artists via a wider exposure platform. In addition to 360-degree support of each release, a Green Label Sound tour will offer participating musicians the chance to introduce their live show to new fans across the country. They are D.I.Y. artists who have elevated themselves while maintaining a strong loyalty to their underground roots. Green Label Sound aims to offer these artists the added access and resources necessary to break through to that next level of cultural significance.

"Who doesn't love free stuff?! Free quality shows? Free quality music? We love for our band to be able to do these things for people. GLS is making it possible, and at a much larger level then we've been able to do before," said Matt of Matt and Kim.

“Green Label Sound is fortunate to have an exclusive single from Matt and Kim. They have remained true to themselves as artists, defy simple categorization and represent the DIY ethic that Green Label Sound seeks to champion,” says Frank Cooper, VP Portfolio Brands, Pepsi-Cola North America.

The GreenLabelSound.com site offers more on the Green Label Sound artists and it will present the full tour details shortly

Deathbowl to Downtown (Oak Street)

Check out this event going down on Wednesday September 24th, 2008 at the Oak Street Cinema on the East Bank.

Taken from the FRANK151 Blog

"This week in Minneapolis, the new documentary film produced by Coan “Buddy” Nichols and Rick Charnoski will show in an advanced screening. Narrated by Chloe Sevigny, Deathbowl to Downtown covers the history of Skateboarding in New York City, following the Zoo York artist crew through the Shut era and on to the birth of current trends. The film saw a remarkable advance screening in New York this past spring, which ended with an afterparty (complete with full ramp setup) at the legendary club Tunnel"

The Art of Foreplay

The crisp fall days have already started to creep into Minneapolis over the past week. The sound of the leaves starting to dry up crackling in the breeze, that chilly breeze as it blows through my hair and that smell of fall makes me think of cuddling under a warm blanket with a lover. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve received a few mixes, bedroom mixes, which in my current state of mind makes me long for that special someone. The latest mix I received is from a friend of mine in Atlanta that goes by the name DJ Black Daniels. However, when he makes seductive mixes he uses his alter ego-Chadwick Sexington, Esq. The Art of Foreplay is the second of Sexington’s “Music for 2” series and as Mr. Chadwick Sexington, Esq. said, “My only suggestions to you are to listen to this with someone special, and of course, take your time.”

With that said feel free to download the latest mix, start a fire and curl up with your lover.

Take Back Labor Day

A review of Take Back Labor Day has been posted up on URB Magazine's blog, peep it here...

Words by Jen Boyles photos by C-Rocka

At some point within the last year, the Minneapolis/St Paul SEIU union decided the best way to combat the weeklong takeover of their domain with the Republican National Convention in town was to throw a massive hip-hop party to "Take Back Labor Day." So on Monday, Sept. 1, they did just that, and peacefully, despite more than 260 arrests of RNC protestors that weekend elsewhere in the city. Showing up for the Labor-Day-seizing on stage were local rap icons Atmosphere, Mos Def, a reunited Pharcyde, and Dave Nada (spinning inbetween sets).

URB was there and got some great pictures of the fest at Harriet Island (thanks to Christina Rimstad for the shots) -- check 'em out and see how great we in the frozen tundra are at massive resistance.

Highlight #1: Pharcyde's Fatlip is sick of everyone circulating rumors that he smokes crack. An obvious retort? A live cover of Bobby Brown's "My Perogative." Dope.

Highlight #2: Seeing Slug rock a sweaty Obama 08 shirt and a crowd of 30,000 hometown fans.

GZA, MUJA MESSIAH, P.O.S.

GZA
Peter S. Scholtes
Let it stew in the subconscious, where the real Wu-Tang decoding begins, but to my ears GZA's new Pro Tools (Babygrande) sounds like one of the more delirious and imaginative Wu-Tang-related releases since GZA's own Wu-fan-favorite Liquid Swords (from 1995), a classic he's been performing live in toto this year. At least "Life Is a Movie" deserves the Gnarls Barkley-sized crossover it won't get, from its Gary Numan-esque synth whack to a funny born-loser chorus ("sometimes I feel like my life's a movie/I don't like to film/I don't like the film") warbled by Irfane Khan-Acito of the Parisian electronic group Outlines. "I contracted lung cancer from third-hand smoke," quips the Genius. "The man who hit lotto and lost his ticket/In a rainstorm, and struck by lightning trying to get it." With devilish local hero Muja Messiah, and special guests to be announced.
